Matching pair of G & J Lines Bros fully furnished'Kits Coty' dolls houses c1910
Here for sale are a matching pair of fully furnished antique dolls' houses by G & J Lines Brothers. G & J Lines (later known as Lines Brothers) made these houses up to 1931 when they became known as Tri-ang. Neither of these have roofs but we don't believe they necessarily came with them. If you research the houses of G & J Lines you will find lots of variations of these:- three floors, roofs, single bay windows, etc. In a very early catalogue (see below) it was described as a really splendid mansion, elaborately fitted up, inside and out. Staircase, doors to rooms, French windows, curtains, beautiful papers on the walls etc. The photo with the yellow post-it is a note from my mother to my daughter explaining how much the house cost when it was new. It's attached to a copy of the original catalogue referred to above. The contents and room settings are a mixture of antique and new although by'new' there is nothing younger that 30 years +. These houses were mine and my sister's and were then passed to our daughters who are now adults and sadly not interested in them. They would make the perfect present for a collector or for siblings who like me and my sister! It'd be lovely to think of them being played with again. In terms of the condition, I'd say that'Ophelia's House' is in marginally better condition. It still has the original brick print paper on the sides and rear and has some lovely wallpaper.
A couple of the curtains or torn/frayed in'White Lodge' and a couple of the carpets are missing but easily replaced. Some of the furniture has sustained some damage of the years as well. I'll include any loose, broken bits in the hope that someone has the skill to mend them. It's difficult to do justice to these beautiful houses in just twelve photos so do please ask for any extra you'd like of eg. Specific rooms, pieces of furniture, etc.
Each house measures 70cm in width, 62cm in height and 49cm in depth. We'll be sad to see these go but feel it's a terrible waste for them to stay in storage as they have been for the past few years. Preferably we'd like to sell them as a pair so they go together but are willing to sell them separately. Please message me for details. PS I've just noticed that the two photos showing the front of the houses have the doors open and therefore not visible.
Both doors are present and glazed and painted white with gold detailing - see photo of contents.
