Here is a RARE English Desk with Hand Painted Design by Dorothy Midgett in 1980 This piece is absolutely gorgeous in person with the different hues of blue, that she painted with Every drawer, bottom sides, top sides and drop front has a different scene This piece is in excellent condition except the very top decorative piece that runs across the top. It has been broke off but the rest could more likely be taken off. This is such a beautiful piece The English desk actually made it in a dollhouse magazine in 1979 called Nutshell News Her only original reprodution of a design is on her blue English desk. It will be along time, if ever, if this piece ever comes up for sale again Measures 6-3/8" in height, not including rail across top x 3-1/4" wide x 1-7/8 in depth. It reads as follows: Most painted furniture is found in the North, so most of Midgett's ideas come from research rather that actual viewing. I'm always checking in books and magazines and sticking pieces of paper in the pages where I find furniture. When I see a piece that has possibilities, I may stare at it for days, weeks, or months, and try to find as many photos of similar period pieces as I can. I steal portion of a design here and there, If there isn't anything usable for the piece I want to paint, I create a design that gives the illusion of the period All Midgett's furniture is adapted this way.
